Alcoholic Definition A
An alcoholic is one who has been
pulled over driving drunk so many
times that he now has to ride his
bike to work because
he has lost
his license. He leaves his car
unattended for days after being
arrested, so that 3
expensive musical instruments
are stolen from the car.
An alcoholic destroys his
relationship with his only daughter by lingering in self-pity and depression.
An alcoholic is one who wakes up naked in
a friend’s flooded bathtub and doesn’t remember how. He knows all the
bartenders at the local bars and is greeted by name and his regular drink. His
gut has gotten so big he can compete with women about to give birth. An
alcoholic’s friends have to find him in the bathroom when the bar closes
because he passed out sometime during the night. An alcoholic is one who leaves a lasting memory on his children, as a father and a family with
something to hide. He tries to “hide” his drinking from his children by
turning his back to them. His children know what a martini shaker is before
they start kindergarten. Even as adults they remember Daddy passing out at
the pool, and the lifeguards asking the family to leave the country
club. An alcoholic is always an alcoholic, and evidently, so are his
kids.
